I have long been an advocate of doing cleanses and detoxes. Believe me, I have tried them all, and chances are if you have been around me you have tried one also. Whether you were a patient, coaching client, friend, or family it is hard to get by me without being put on a cleanse! I have also been an advocate for juicing and all the great health benefits that come with it. There is also a movement or trend that has been going on called "Meatless Mondays", you may have heard of it. So stay with me, I know I just hit you with three different things. Meatless Monday's is where one day a week, on Mondays, you do not eat any meat. Not only are there health benefits but also environmental benefits. Now, do not get me wrong, I am not a fan of veganism or vegetarianism, in fact there is currently not one centurion in America that is a vegetarian. I am not going to go in to all the reasons why I do not promote the practices, I have actually tried vegetarianism and pescatarianism myself. But I do strongly agree that as Americans we consume way too much cooked meat, especially poor quality meat. So going a day without any is a pretty good idea. So my wife and I decided to incorporate all three practices in to our weekly routine.
We had recently completed a 4 day juice cleanse, that consisted of drinking 4 organic cold pressed juices per day, lots of water, and some raw vegetables in moderation. So we decided hey let's do this cleanse for one day every week. The juices are super healthy and detoxifying, it gives your digestive system a much needed break, supplies an overload of key nutrients that is lacking in our diet, and starts your week off great on a path to a healthier week. It also feels really good if you are coming off a weekend of let's say not your best choices. We have done it for a month now, and plan on continuing the practice. Sound crazy or weird? Good. Because that is what it takes to get the results you want. If the majority of Americans aren't doing it, then you are probably on the right track. Just look at our disease and obesity rates, you want to do the complete opposite of what most people are doing. The juice kit we specifically purchase is a kit at Costco, the company is Daily Greens. Here is a link to their website.
