![]() Yesterday I did a corporate wellness talk at a company that served pizza to their employees. Maybe they did it to just make me mad, haha. But at least I wasn't talking about nutrition. I started the talk out by making a joke about it. And a lady shouted out that it was OK because this pizza place only does whole wheat crust. I looked at her, and then she said three words that made me cringe, "So it's healthy". I couldn't help myself, I had to respond. I simply told her, "we need to work on your definition of healthy". Sometimes when I do these talks, I think to myself who hasn't heard this information already? Or they have probably already read this online somewhere. But then there are other times where I am reminded how little most of us know about health. What it is, where it comes from, where to start when pursuing it. Now whole wheat pizza, is it healthy? Maybe healthier than some others. But it's still loaded with carbohydrates, cheese, nitrate and nitrite filled sausage. Well balanced right? haha think again. There is a great book out right now called Grain Brain, I highly recommend it. Now do some grains have benefits, of course, ancient grains like quinoa or spelt and others that are complete proteins. But the wheat pizza? Basically brown colored dough. But the pizza is not my point, my point is we don't know what health is, I have made it my mission to try to show as many people as I can.
