Believe it or not, I have a lot of patients come to me for the treatment of depression. But I thought chiropractic was about back pain? If that was your first thought than you obviously haven't been to our practice. We have done a great job helping people get over their depression. We have great supplements that help, I get people moving and exercising, we help them lose weight, fix their spine and nervous system, all of these things are great and we have used them to help numerous people with depression. But that's not what cures it. Actually no one can cure it, besides yourself. This was the case with all of the patients I helped as well. They had to come to the decision that they must change, not that they should but that they must, and that they were no longer happy with being like this. And to be honest this decision can be made instantly. It only takes an instant to change our state. See there a difference between being depressed and having depression. What do I mean? We have all been depressed, it is a natural feeling. For whatever reason, loss of job, loss of a loved one, etc. The emotion is natural to have. So what's the difference? Being depressed means you have bought in to that identity. You have taken the identity of being depressed and made it yours. And you start doing things that build in to this identity. Therapy sessions, prescription drugs, whatever it is, but it builds in to your identity. But as this identity of depression grows and has been fueled by other people reinforcing this identity it becomes harder to change. Not just hard, actually terrifying. Because this change would go against your identity. The identity that you have worked so hard to form. Does this sound crazy? It would have to me a few years ago until I had seen people change their state in the blink of an eye, the amazing thing is you have absolute control of your state. You may have not figured out how to control it, but you can. Well why would someone want to embrace this identity? They may not want to, this could be completely subconsciously. But the reason it happens is this identity meets one of their primal needs. We all have primal needs, that shape our behavior, whether it is Love, significance, certainty. And we make decisions based on our primal needs. The unfortunate part is that mast of us didn't chose our primal needs, they were shaped by other people or by situations. But once you recognize that you have the power to chose your primal needs, and pour all of your energy in to positive behavior that feeds those needs your there.
