This last Saturday on my radio show, I gave my "State of our health address", and if you missed it I'll sum it up....It's poor. Worse than poor, it's pathetic. We are less than 5% of the world's population yet we consume over 70% of the pharmaceutical drugs. Does that shock you? It doesn't shock me, everywhere you turn is another drug ad or another drug commercial. We are so overly prescribed in this country it is ridiculous. I have some patients that walk in to my office with literally freezer bags full of drugs. And a lot of them come in, in denial. That is why the name of my office is Adjust...A Healthcare Intervention, and my radio show shares the same name, Healthcare Intervention because that is what our office literally is for most people... An Intervention. Not for alcohol or illegal street drugs, but for prescribed drugs. Just because it came with a prescription from a doctor, does not make it healthy. I ask my patients a simple question, if drugs made you healthy wouldn't the people that took the most drugs be the healthiest? Of course not! In fact it's the exact opposite...The people who are on more drugs are the sickest, and the healthiest are on zero. Only 1% of the US population maks it 60 year old on zero meds, but guess what I can say that some of my patients are in that 1%.

ALL ABOUT WATER

Most people do not realize that their water can actually be creating toxicity in their bodies. If the majority of the water you consume is through plastic water bottles, then you are at high risk for toxicity from the plastic leaching in to your water. I always recommend using stainless steel canteens or glass water bottles to drink your water from. But if the water that you are putting in to those bottles is tap water, then you are still consuming high levels of chlorine and fluoride. These are exteremly toxic elements and should be avoided at all times. In fact, if you are brushing your teeth with a fluroide based paste, which I do not recommend, if you read the back of it it will say something like if swallowed contact a physician. But with tap water you are swallowing it all day long! I run in to a lot of people that say oh I use a PUR filter or I use a Brita jug. These do NOT filter fluoride!!! A better option, which is more affordable than you might think, is a reverse osmosis system for your house. For my family, we purchased a reverse osmosis system that goes under the sink from Costco for around $200. And you only have to replace the filters every 6 months which cost around $40. It was easy to install and filters the Fluoride from your tap water! Fluroide is know to cause brain damage!  And recent studies show it doesn't even benefit your teeth and was placed in public water as a form to get rid of industrial waste.

I get a lot of people ask me on a daily basis what my opinion is on healthcare reform, specifically Obamacare. This is not a politcally charged post so you can keep reading... I tell them that they can not rely on anyone else to take care of their health. No government, no insurance companies, no one. The only person who is responsible for your health is YOU. You see, does the government or your insurance company really care if you are healthy? Would they lose sleep if you were to be diagnosed with cancer or even die? The answer is no, they wouldn't. You have to take responsibilty in to your own hands. You are in charge, you call the shots. Be proactive when it comes to your health. If you do not invest in your health now, you will have to pay later. The bill will come due, trust me. And 75% of all bankruptcy is caused by health problems and health bills. If you work your whole life saving to retire someday, what is it worth if you can not enjoy it. Invest now! Do not rely on anyone else. YOU are your only HOPE.

COCONUT OIL

Like I said yesterday in my blog, saturated fats are an important part of my diet. And the one I consume the most and Lisia and I do all our cooking with is coconut oil. Make sure you get raw, unrefined, and organic. Costco has a big tub of it for pretty cheap. Coconut oil as a "saturated fat" is not the culprit for heart disease as has been claimed. Heart disease prevention begins with consuming a good quality saturated fat such as virgin coconut oil. Coconut oil actually regulates blood cholesterol levels as well as triglycerides and therefore helps with heart disease prevention and treatment. Research indicates that coconut oil prevents oxidization of cholesterol, one of the main causes of atherosclerosis. Coconut oil-based diets lowered Lp(a) levels. Measuring Lp(a) levels has been found to be a much more accurate indication of being prone to CHD (Coronary Heart Disease). Prevention begins by normalizing bodily functions and virgin coconut oil does just that!

TURTH ABOUT BUTTER

Today the Mayo Clinic tweeted a link on Twitter to their heart healthy guide. They are 25 years behind the research! In the guide they tell you to replace butter with margarine, and to avoid saturated fats. Research is telling us now that this couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, margarine users are twice as likely to develop heart disease compared to butter users. Not to mention develop some other sydrome or disorder because margarine is crap! It's artificial, and until 1950 it wasn't even allowed to be dyed yellow to confuse consumers. It was required to be in its "natural" color, grey. Gross! Would you put it on your toast if it was grey? Probably not! If you put out a piece of margarine and butter out, ants won't even touch the margarine, and if they do they die! But they will flock to the butter. The saturated fat myth has been busted. When you go for things that are "low fat", the fat is replaced with sugars or other artifical crap which is the cause of inflammation and the root cause of heart disease. Saturated fats are an important part of my diet, and are essential to your health. So skip the toast (grains and carbs can cause inflammation) but stick to the real stuff, BUTTER!

HEART DISEASE PREVENTION

This month is "Heart Health" month, along with Black History month and probably some other months that we can't keep track of. But this month the AMA and hospitals across the country are paying close attention to heart disease and educating people on ways of prevention. But guess what, they are wrong! And in fact if you follow many of their strategies you are guaranteed to get heart disease! On my radio show, "Healthcare Intervention" we are in the middle of a two part series on Heart disease, you can listen to my past shows here on my website under the radio show tab. The medical system is hung up on the fat and cholesterol myth, when in fact they are missing the boat entirely. The root cause of Heart Disease is Inflammation not fat or cholesterol. Cholesterol is just a by product of inflammation, you see your liver sends out cholesterol to repair your arteries when there is damage and plaquing caused by inflammation. Cholesterol is the good guy! And in fact, if you artficially lower cholesterol with drugs, not only are you going to damage your heart by not sending up the repairing mechanism, you are also going to damage your brain and liver. When doctors see that your cholesterol number is up, due to inflammation, they just focus on the cholesterol and not the root cause.  

Look what Dr. Ron Rosedale, MD and leading anti-aging expert has to say about cholesterol...

"First and foremost," Dr. Rosedale points out, "cholesterol is a vital component of every cell membrane on Earth. In other words, there is no life on Earth that can live without cholesterol.That will automatically tell you that, in and of itself, it cannot be evil. In fact, it is one of our best friends.We would not be here without it. No wonder lowering cholesterol too much increases one's risk of dying. Cholesterol is also a precursor to all of the steroid hormones. You cannot make estrogen, testosterone, cortisone, and a host of other vital hormones without cholesterol."
